BAHRAIN, June 27 (World Daily Times) — Bahrain said Saturday that Iranian drones entered its territory, prompting sharp condemnations from the Gulf Cooperation Council and several Gulf states that said the strike threatened regional security and peace efforts.
Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry described the attack as a “flagrant threat” to the kingdom’s security. The ministry also said Iran’s continued attacks placed responsibility on Tehran for undermining peace efforts.
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi called the attack “treacherous” and said it would undermine efforts to preserve stability in the region.
Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry said the strikes were “a dangerous undermining of endeavors for peace and stability,” while the United Arab Emirates said it stood with Bahrain and remained committed to its safety and stability.
Saudi Arabia and Qatar also condemned the attack, saying it violated Bahrain’s sovereignty and international law. Qatar called it “a flagrant violation” of sovereignty and “a blatant breach of the rules of international law.”
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said on state-run television that it had targeted several locations it described as belonging to “the U.S. terrorist army in the region.”
The New York Times reported that Gulf foreign ministers meeting in Bahrain earlier this month collectively denounced Iranian assaults on Bahrain and Kuwait and said Iran was fully accountable.
