CAIRO, June 24 (World Daily Times) — Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said archaeologists uncovered a burial cache at the Panhesy tomb site in the Matariya archaeological section of Ain Shams, inside the Heliopolis necropolis, that included five pairs of yellow-colored metal earrings believed to be gold.
The ministry said the cache was found beneath a burial structure containing human remains. Officials described it as the first nearly complete funerary assemblage ever discovered in the area.
Photos released by the ministry showed the earrings alongside carved scarabs and other small objects, as well as cosmetic containers and a copper mirror. Excavators also recovered two alabaster kohl containers with traces of ancient eye makeup, a third kohl container made of black obsidian and four stones, two of which are believed to be agate.
The ministry said the discovery built on earlier finds at the site during the current excavation season, including mudbrick and limestone funerary structures and two coffins found in fragmented condition. Fox News, in its report on the ministry announcement, described Heliopolis as an ancient Egyptian city tied in Genesis to the Joseph narrative.
