WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital Sunday morning, his office said, and a later update said the 84-year-old Kentucky senator remained engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.

David Popp, McConnell’s communications director, said McConnell was “receiving excellent care.” Popp did not disclose why McConnell was hospitalized, and the office did not identify the hospital or provide more detail about his condition.

In a June 16 statement, Popp said McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

Earlier this year, McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation on the night of Feb. 2 after experiencing “flu-like symptoms” over the weekend, according to a statement from Popp.

McConnell was discharged Feb. 10 after eight days in the hospital. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
