FLINT, Mich., June 28 (Our Michigan Times) — Genesee County prosecutors have charged Damien O’Brien and Jessica O’Brien in connection with the death of their 7-year-old son, Casper O’Brien, court records show.

Online court records list charges including second-degree murder, torture and child abuse. CBS News reported that the records identify Damien O’Brien as 40 and Jessica O’Brien as 41, and say both are expected to appear at a probable cause conference on Thursday.

Casper died Nov. 4, 2025, after a 911 call from the family’s Flint Township home reported that he was not breathing, according to law enforcement officials cited in the records-based reporting.

Court documents cited in coverage say Casper weighed 255 pounds. Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said the case involved neglect, saying, “These parents, I believe, neglected this child to the point that he became obese,” and describing what he called “reckless and intentional neglect.”
