UNION, SOUTH CAROLINA, June 25 (Nationwide Times) — A Wendy’s in Union, South Carolina, is facing a food-safety case after police said three employees were charged with tampering with a customer’s meal at the chain’s North Duncan Bypass location.

Union police said the trouble started when a drive-thru customer complained about her order and staff offered to remake it. The customer took the replacement and drove away, but police said employees later took the food from the trash and spat on it before serving it again.

Authorities identified the charged workers as Aaliyah Shuntai Sanders, Trinity Lashell Rice and Shadela Crystal Holley. Police-related reporting said Sanders and Rice were arrested, while the restaurant disciplined a third employee tied to the incident.

The manager said the employees involved were written up, according to the police account. Police accounts place the incident in late May, and the case has raised concerns about food handling at a national chain restaurant in the city.
